Are there moments of genuine connection, even if rare? If yes, you likely have a normally developing adolescent navigating typical teenage rebellion. The most helpful parent response to healthy teen rebellion is clear boundaries with flexibility about enforcement, continued connection attempts even when rejected, and respect for their growing autonomy. Stay involved without hovering. Know their world without requiring constant reporting. This balance—firm enough to provide security, flexible enough to allow growth—helps adolescents develop into independent adults while maintaining family bonds.
